SLOW PROGRESS

 

My crosstitch bookmark is taking a while to do but I have made some progress. I can only work on it a short while before I go crosseyed. I have unpulled and redone the border using 2 strands instead of 3 and done more of the centre and scattered stitching . Not much more to do now. Whew! 

I finshed the 4th book of a series I have been enjoying and have the final one waiting for me on my bookshelf. I have 2 new books I received for Christmas that I shall read before it , both non fiction.

HAPPY 2024!

 

After a very challenging 2023 for some of us I hope 2024 brings us all an abundance of good things.

Around Christmas time I was cleaning out a cupboard and found a bag of things I had bought and collected during my overseas trip way back in 2015. Now, that was a good year! I travelled with my youngest daughter for a month and later that year we had my eldest daughter 's wedding. Such fond memories. Anyhoo, in this bag I found a crosstitch bookmark kit I bought at Stonehenge. Nothing like taking over 8 years to rediscover it ! So, at long last, I started it. It is not good on the eyes but I am persevering. The instructions say to use 3 strands of thread throughout most of the crosstitch but I am using 2 strands after not being happy with the border......that shall be unpicked and redone after I finish the rest,

                  Progress so far, don't look too close lol.

                                     

                                          I have crocheted more flowers.

   

                          Cleaning up my craft room, finishing quilts then winding down from patchwork and quilting is my goal this year. I have noone to give quilts to and I can't machine quilt . I may be able to contribute with blocks for charity quilts this year instead. Now that I have rediscovered crosstitch from completing my decades old unfinished ones last year , I have been inspired to do more . I still love embroidery so I plan to still do some of that too. Smaller hobbies, less storage required. That is my aim. Let's see what actually happens. 

SUNNY DAY

A pleasant sunny day without humidity is a nice change here today.  We have had some warm days but they were quite humid which is rather unusual down here in the south. We have had lots of rain, warm humid days, and some cooler days . All higgildy piggildy... or whatever that expression was during my childhood. 

I took advantage of the sunshine and replanted the pots and tub on my verandah.

I crocheted more pretty flowers during the week.

I bought Fiona Mc Intosh's latest book and loved it as much as all her other ones I have read. 

I hope those of you who live up North have avoided the cyclone and are all safe.

MORE FLOWERS BLOOMING

 

My crochet garden blooms are growing. I am loving these colours . 

A few each day keeps me inspired despite the fatigue . Working with the colours makes me feel happy and the rhythmic pace of doing crochet is calming. Do you find this with your craft? Thanks for visiting me.

MISSED A FEW POSTS

 

3 weeks ago I came down with Covid for the first time. I have been quite vigilant from the beginning and still wear a mask in the supermarket if there are a lot of people  around me.  However, I caught it from my daughter and grandsons . Even though they have had it before I managed to dodge it back then having not been around them at the contageous time. So hubby and I both got it this time. I had no runny nose or cough, just a sore throat one afternoon then by that night I had a shocking migraine and was very nauseous. I couldn't keep a sip of water down so I couldn't take any pain killers. To top it off I collapsed on my bedroom floor rug and woke up confused as to why my face felt scratchy lol. The next day my daughter had to come over to assist despite having Covid herself and an ambulance was called because I was dehydrated and my head was exploding. After giving me some sublingual anti nausea medication things improved but I face planted on the bathroom floor the following night and woke up with my nose bleeding everwhere. Judging by how sore my nose felt the next few days I think I had fallen on my nose. So, once again, not much craft has been done the past few weeks but I did open that yummy pack of yarn and I have started the project I bought it for.

I have been enjoying this book series and finished book 3. I have passed them on to my mum who is also loving them. Book 4 is on my shelf waiting to be read and the final book, number 5, is on its way from Booktopia. 

I won't be doing much craft today as I pulled a neck muscle in bed last night while simply changing position .  Gotta laugh. Ain't ageing fun! 

YUMMYLISIOUS

 

........ a new word? It is what came to mind when I opened my yarn pack from the U.K .  Fifty eight little 10g balls of cotton/ acrylic yarn ready to pick and choose from for a new crochet project . 

 

Once again, it was cheaper to purchase the yarn with the postage from the U.K . I am not talking about saving just a couple of dollars, I saved heaps! Maybe the online shops here purchase it from overseas and by the time they add their mark up it is waaaaaay over priced. 

I have been cleaning up my youngest daughter's things she left here when she moved out nearly 20 years ago and she told me to toss all her books out. I shall be taking them to the OpShop but I couldn't part with one book that I just had to read. I re read Anne of Green Gables not long ago but had never read Anne of Avonlea. It is rather humourous in a gentle old fashioned way.

I had no idea several books were written in the series and would love to read them although I don't think my daughters owned any others. 

Now.....where is my crochet hook ? 

BOOK BUT NO CREATIONS

 

Well, I haven't done anything crafty since my last post. I am eagerly awaiting the arrival of some yummy cotton yarn from the UK to start another crochet project but I have not felt enthusiastic about starting any stitching project until I finish some UFOs. However, I do have a pic to show you. My youngest daughter, ( now 35), carves a pumpkin every year for Halloween. I am not into Halloween , infact the true meaning eludes most people and it is the wrong time of year here in the Southern Hemisphere. My daughter is very creative and each year she seems to outdo herself. This year she has done the Cheshire Cat from a darker game version. As usual, it is a Disney character.

The one thing I have done is read another book. I have read a few of this author but felt this one was not as good as the others. Maybe it is just me.

Hopefully I will have another project on the go next time.
