CALMING CROCHET

I love crochet. I tried to do it decades ago with little success so I just kept knitting. However, all that changed after learning to crochet step by step with pics to guide me on Attic 24 and joining a Crochet A Long. I had previously done some crocheting with some help via the phone from a blog friend and I had some success but now I absolutely love it. I have been making my munchkin's blue blanket.

A while ago I bought some Thomas the Tank Engine fabric to make 2 pillow cases for my munchkin and I am still trying to get around to sewing them. I need to follow a tutorial.

I bought a small iron from Spotlight quite a while ago to iron the small pieces and blocks I hand piece. I always iron them on a small ironing board in my sewing room but I usually hand piece in another room. So, I decided to buy a small ironing mat to use closer to where I stitch. I also replaced my sand paper board with a lovely thin rubber mat that can be rolled up and even washed.

HAPPY DELIVERY

Hello, hello , hello. I feel like it has been ages since I last posted but , like everyone else, we have been settling in to the new normal.  I now shop for my parents and pick up their prescriptions leaving everything on their doorstep. They are very active people but they both have plenty to keep them occupied. Dad has his workshop, vegie garden and his bees to look after . Mum loves tending to her garden, stitching, knitting and reading. Both my parents experienced the polio epidemic as children and WW2 restrictions here in Australia so they are quite happy staying home.

I did the happy dance this morning when my parcel of yarny yumminess finally arrived from the UK. I love Stylecraft Special DK  yarn as it is machine washable and feels so lovely. My 3 year old munchkin  loves snuggling under my crocheted blankets so I am going to crochet a blanket for him to have at his home. He keeps telling me " bwoo is my favrit colour grandma" so I ordered a few balls of the yarn in different blues, a cream and a grey.  I am going to use Attic 24's Dune pattern .

I love crocheting with Armour crochet hooks so I ordered 3 more different sizes to add to the 3 I already have. Before you ask, no, I do not have any association with the brand of yarn or crochet hooks, I just love using them. 

I have made progress with my little hand pieced quilt. It looks a bit messy but all the 2 inch blocks are placed in order.

I haven't been stitching much despite all the available time as I have been quite tired. I had 2 carcinomas cut out a week ago, one from my forearm and one from my cheek. The one on my forearm was ok but the one on my cheek was cancer. I am so glad I went to the skin doctor when I did because I was thinking if postponing it until the pandemic was over. Just call me Scarface now lol.

QUILTING DONE

One thing that crafters need not fear is isolation. Given the current situation I am amazed how some people are worrying about how they will pass the time in isolation. I know I spend a lot of time at home but I think a lot of quilters and stitchers crave the opportunity to spend more time with needle and thread.  It is also the perfect opportunity to use fabrics from our stash and to complete some UFOs. I was thrilled to pick up my 2 quilts that I had finally pieced together , one a UFO. I clearly haven't ironed this one yet.

I chose this text fabric for the backing. A talking point.

An Angels Story was made with my intention of making it from start to finish without putting it aside and becomming a UFO. Yey! I did it and it feels so good.

Progress on my little quilt has been slow and I still need to trace and cut pieces for the final row. However, I did get the urge to start stitching some blocks . Each block is 2 inches. One row has been completed.

Being constantly bombarded with grim news we choose not to listen to the radio or watch tv much and just keep updated without focusing on it all day. My little munchkins always bring me joy and put a smile on my face. It looks like little brother already has the upper hand.

ANOTHER LITTLE QUILT.

I had my little sewing group here today, my only monthly social activity. As I only have projects to be finished on the sewing machine or to have fabric auditions I wondered what I could sew today while chatting. Ah, another little quilt! Just the thing to get me back into stitching. So, I selected my Civil War repros from my stash for the first 5 rows a couple of days ago and have now cut the fabrics for the first 2 rows to be hand pieced. 

I have read another book! Couldn't put it down. It is Christian White's second novel. I read his first one, " The Nowhere Child" when it was first released and quite enjoyed that one but this one was exceptional . I never saw the double twist coming. Another great Aussie author.

A LITTLE IS BETTER THAN NOTHING

Only a little stitching and crochet has been happening here. I have been rather kapooped, ( not sure if that is a real word but it is certainly very descriptive), due to the usual lack of sleep . Just keeping up with household tasks , grocery shopping, and spending time with my grandsons  is enough to see me laying on the couch watching Netflix or Stan. However, a little achievement is better than none.

My Sashiko cushion top is finished and I am auditioning fabrics for a border to make it into a table topper. I had a specific Japanese fabric in mind but discovered that I had used it all. So, these Japanese squares are all I could find in my stash. I am not quite sure if they are suitable so I shall ponder for a while.

My pile of little crocheted hexies is growing.

It didn't take me long to read this wonderful book. Her new book is out now so it is on my list.

A couple of my gorgeous blog friends are unwell at the moment or experiencing life's ups and downs.  My thoughts are with you.

ALMOST THERE

Not much stitching has been happening here but I am catching up. All the hand quilting has been done on my table topper but I am unsure how to proceed with the borders. I thought of machine quilting straight lines , then I thought of hand quilting straight lines, then I thought of just hand quilting around each hexie on the borders but that would still not solve the border dilemma. Any ideas? No ironing happening here either lol.

My Sashiko was quick, easy and enjoyable to do. I don't want to make it into a cushion but thought I would just put a border around it with Japanese fabric I had in my stash. Wrong! Looks like I used it all on another project. Still pondering now but I don't want it to become a UFO.

Feeling tired and lazy I decided that I needed something to do while watching Netflix. I discovered these cute crocheted hexies to make on Bunny Mummy's blog. I have no idea what I will do with them yet but I am just enjoying the journey.

Well, as Bugs Bunny said, " that's all folks".

No idea why that came to mind lol.
