IT STARTED WITH...

....a Christmas dish . After a massive clean up last week and the adrenalin still pumping I just couldn't wind down. I was sitting on my sofa looking at the Christmas dish I had placed on the coffee table. It is silver, white and gold . Well, my mind started whizzing and I remembered that I had a couple of Christmas fat quarters in those colours. So what did I do? I went straight into my sewing room, found the fabrics and proceeded to cut them into strips , piece them together, make the back using some of the left over fabrics and machine quilted it in one go! Woohooo! I thought I would have enough scraps left to make the binding but, alas, I was proven to be incorrect. Hmmmm, dilemma. By this time it was one a.m so I thought I would retire for the evening, (or morning), and work out what to do the next day. Luckily I found some suitable fabric in my stash, not quite what I wanted but it did the trick. Voila! A Christmas table topper. As usual, I am not a good ironer as you can see.

 

 

I tried a different mandala design during the week. All it needs is a press and a hoop.

 

 

 

 

The big clean up is still happening, in fact I cleaned up my sewing room again today. I emptied 2 plastic containers which I can now use for other things and threw out other stuff I had put aside. After  a vacuum  I am doing the happy dance. Now for the cupboards.

COLOUR THERAPY

  Years ago I read a bit about colour therapy and how various hues can affect our emotional well being. I have been "hooked" on making colourful crocheted mandalas and find myself  smiling as I crochet and select the colour combos. The first one I made has now been attached to a hoop. The process was a little tedious at first but I soon got the "hang" of it. ( No hanging thingy has been made yet). Any ideas?

 

 

As I mentioned in my last post I have found making these mandalas quite addictive.

 

 

 

 

I am trying another design now.

 

 

 

 

More colour therapy arrived on my doorstep yesterday from the UK. I am doing Lucy's Sweet Pea CAL which starts early January. I simply couldn't resist. Lucy will be putting it on her blog each week at Attic 24 and I can tell you that her step by step instructions along with photos are always fantastic for anyone new to crochet or needing a bit of confidence.

 

 

 

 

I haven't really done much stitching since I discovered the mandalas and I have also been doing a massive summer spring clean around the house sending stuff to the Op Shop or the rubbish collection  and it feels soooooo good. Another Christmas block is nearly finished, just not for this Christmas. ( Unless anyone has a spare elf or two???)

A FINISH AND SOME NEW CROCHET

Do you ever get enthused to start a new project and put a nearly completed project aside ? Do you then promptly forget about it? Well, that's what I did with the my last  Christmas deco.  I am pleased to say that I found it and have now finished it.

 

 

I have finished the 1st Christmas stitchery block that I showed you last time and have started the 2nd one.

 

 

 

I was recently perusing Lucy's blog, Attic 24, and discovered her pattern for a crocheted mandala. So what's a girl to do with left over cotton yarn? Yep, I made one! It hasn't been ironed yet to straighten it out and I need to find a hoop for it but hopefully I will locate some hoops at Lincraft or Spotlight before Christmas. These could become addictive and I think I will try a different sized hook next time to make it tighter.

NOT MUCH HAPPENING

Just before we went away I finished another book which I borrowed from my mum. We are lucky to have the same reading tastes and often swap books with each other.

 

My stitching enthusiasm has waned so I haven't really done much stitching apart from starting a Christmas stitchery.

 

 

 

I have been collecting Jenny's free weekly designs for pincushions which I had planned to make as Christmas gifts but time is fast running out and my mojo seems to have gone on leave already.

WHERE HAVE I BEEN?

I have been away visiting the pandas. Hubby and I went to Adelaide for a week to catch up with family and we also managed to see some touristy sights. I must say, wheelchair access is absolutely wonderful over there. While hubby spent the day with his brother and sister in law at Port Wakefield I decided to take a wander down Rundle Mall and I came across some quirky things.

 

 

 

 

Ofcourse, we had to visit the Adelaide zoo to see the pandas.

 

 

 

Ever soooooo cute! Needless to say I came home with "Lin Lin" the panda softie and a T shirt and hat with pandas on them for my munchkin. I was so pleased to see munchkin with his panda today at his great grandmother's birthday celebration.  Yey! Lin Lin is a winner!

 

I did take some stitching with me but never did any.

 

 

 

I promise to catch up with all your blog posts soon. I have not only been away but I still have no new android tablet to use instead of the main computer.

SLOWLY BUT SURELY

 Until recently I didn't realise how important crafty blog land was for me. Without a tablet to pick up and check out all your lovely blogs I have felt quite disconnected from the stitching world. Fortunately, I have been able to access our main computer to catch up but it is not as often as I would like. I have not been stitching much over the past couple of weeks as I had a fall while staying at my youngest daughter's for a few days and have had some nasty internal bruising which made it difficult for me to do much. However, I have completed Munchkin's stitchery which I intend to frame or staple to a canvas.

 

 

I have made a set of 6 coasters to post to my daughter. They are perfect for her décor and also ideal for Halloween. I had intended to make a matching table runner but that is on hold for now.

 

 

A while ago I saw this book , picked it up, and then put it back again deciding I would buy it another time. Not long after that I saw a review on a TV program raving about this very book. The author is another Aussie who is incredibly humble and doubtful about any success but  he is a very talented writer. Needless to say I went out and bought the book. Honestly, it kept me wanting to read more at the end of every chapter.

 

 

 

I am half way through another book so I am quite pleased with myself getting back to reading more like I used to.

 

The weather here is beautiful and sunny one day, rainy and dull the next. Nothing like variety to keep us guessing what wear and when to hang the clothes on the line.

SEPTEMBER OPAM

 Spring has sprung and I have been enjoying getting out in the sunshine even if it is only to buy groceries. We have been blessed with a couple of beautiful days this mid Spring  as well as not so beautiful days aplenty but I do enjoy the good weather when it decides to appear. However, on those rather bleak days I take the opportunity to sit and stitch or crochet. This means that I have completed a few little projects. 3 of the 4 Christmas decos....

 

2 crocheted dishcloths.

 

 

I have nearly finished reading this book. Yes, it is another Aussie one. I am not really sure what I think of it but it does hold my interest so it can't be too bad.

 

 

I already have my next book lined up.
