NOT A LOT HAPPENING

 Alas, I have not done as much stitching as I would have liked but I have made some progress. I have been auditioning fat 1/4s from my stash for the double borders around each angel block. Unfortunately a couple of blocks are too big for fat 1/4s so I need to improvise a bit. However, I have completed 2 blocks and have at least chosen fabrics for most of the blocks. Hopefully, I shall get some more borders sewn on this weekend.

 

 

I have nearly completed stitching the final block and have also been continuing with my penny rug but I wanted to do some mindless stitching, something I didn't have to focus on too hard while I have been feeling poorly. I remembered that I had bought a Sashiko panel a few years ago at a quilt fair so I cut each individual block out and started stitching this one.

PERFECT STITCHING WEATHER

Brrrrrr. It's cold outside. Last night was a very stormy night with strong winds and I could hear things being flung around our backyard. Today it is dull, windy and rain ,rain, rain. It is winter so I can't complain but it is rather miserable and I am glad I have stitching to keep a smile on my face. I am rather pleased that I have made 2 decorated hand towels .

 

I have completed another angel and the 2nd last one is almost finished now . This is Dimity the Dreamer.

 

 

This afternoon I have been busy trimming all the completed angel blocks to their correct sizes ready to have double borders sewn onto them once I have selected the fabrics. I have a feeling this is going to be a long process for me.

OPAM AND ANOTHER FINISH

Okay, where did June go? ( why does the date come up as Saturday 30th when it is Sunday 1st?)I just remembered to hang up my July mini. Jenny had designs for each month in her stitchery club a couple of years ago and I decided to make them into monthly minis using some of my pre cut stash. 

In my last post I said I was going to make some coasters to match my table topper. Well, here they are. I used the left over pieces from the charm squares.

 

This means I have completed 4 projects in June. Yey!

 

 

 

A set of coasters and table topper, a crocheted scarf, and Munchkin's quilt.  I am currently stitching another angel block , have one prepared to applique and I have been dressing the last one, Angela, this afternoon.

 

 

 

I am not a fan of winter so I do enjoy sitting in my heated home with stitching in hand. Unfortunately, I have lost my voice so I am sipping hot water with apple cider vinegar and honey. I believe it is also a bit cool up North so please keep warm and ailment free.

BLOGGER FRUSTRATION AND FINISHES

It looks like the issues with Blogger are not improving. Not only are they not sending emails of people's comments on my blog but now I cannot seem to leave comments on other people's blogs. I feel like I have been isolated form my lovely blogger friends. Hopefully the problems shall be sorted out soon. Meanwhile, back here in Crafty land I have actually completed 2 projects. Yey! Don't fall off your chairs. Munchkin's quilt was put on hold as I didn't have enough fabric for the binding. I put it away for a couple of days and when I was rummaging around in my stash for another project  I found enough fabric which would suit the binding. This is the end result. ( the backdrop isn't really appealing but I needed somewhere to hang it). It is a rather unique quilt as it is totally machine pieced and machine quilted by yours truly. A rarity indeed.

 

I have had some lovely Basic Grey charm squares sitting in my stash for a while so I decided to make a table runner. Once again, I tried machine piecing and machine quilting but it wasn't without a little drama. First the needle dropped out as I was sewing and then when I put it back it broke in half! I found the pointy end but still haven't found the rest of the needle. I thought it may be stuck up in the part where you insert the needle but I couldn't see so I just put the new needle in anyway. It seems to be working so who knows where that bit of needle is. Machines and I never seem to have a fantastic relationship.  Matching coasters are currently under construction using remnants of the cut charm squares.

 

 

 

And...... another angel . This is Harriet the Homebody. Only 3 left to do now.

 

 

Unfortunately I haven't had much energy to stitch the last couple of days but hopefully I will be full of energy after an iron infusion this week and maybe some sleep.

MORE ANGELS

I have had a productive stitching time this past week completing 2 more angel blocks. This one is Zoe and Prudence.

I have just finished selecting all the threads ready to stitch Harriet who may make an appearance in a few days. I can also get back to my penny rug now that some beautiful wool felt has arrived from lovely Karen.

JUNE ALREADY!

How did June arrive so quickly? It seems we only really got Autumn half way through and now winter is officially here. It has been quite dull around 4pm each day and I have wanted to close the curtains and snuggle in for the evening well before the evening meal . I nearly forgot that it is OPAM time again.

 

I am unsure whether crochet and knitting are included but I sure hope so as I have only managed to finish such projects...1 knitted pair of fingerless gloves and 1 crocheted scarf.

However, I have some of my mojo back now and completed Fran's Flying School block as well as 2 little heart blocks for my angel quilt.

 

 

My mum liked the scarf I crocheted for myself so I whipped up another one for her in a colour she would like.

 

 

I have come to a grinding halt with my penny rug until some more lovely soft wool felt arrives on my doorstep .

PINNED, PARIS AND PENNIES

 Time just flies. I think we all know that feeling even though some days seem to drag on when we are feeling unwell and uninspired. I was on a roll with my angel blocks and then life got in the way leaving me without my stitching mojo. Sometimes it just takes something a little different to get me back stitching. I have wanted to make a wool felt penny rug table topper for years. As I have built up a small stash of wool felt in Autumnal colours as well as brights I decided to have a play with the colours and started to sew some 3 layer pennies. With a mug, glass bottle and a alcohol nip measurer ( I have no idea what these are called), I traced the 3 different sizes, cut them out and blanket stitched them with a much larger stitch than I usually do. Now I have almost run out of these colours and hope some more arrive with an order this week so I can keep stitching and actually complete something. I must say that I love stitching wool. It is so soft and pliable to use.

 

 

I have finally completed reading another book. This one is non fiction about a wonderful woman who helped around 1000 Jewish children to escape Paris when it was occupied by the Nazis. 

 

 

 

I decided to get back to basting my munchkin's quilt yesterday after my earlier attempt failed. This time I used masking tape to secure the backing to the floor and it worked. So, I am smiling again and ready to try my hand at simple machine quilting. Wish me luck!
