YEY

.....my yarn arrived! It was on my doorstep yesterday morning so I hope to get back to crocheting the blanket tonight. 

Yesterday afternoon I cut all the sashings for the Christmas wallhanging and I pieced the 6 blocks together today. Silly me mentioned there are meant to be 8 blocks but then I realised there are 9. I found some suitable Christmas fabric in my stash for the backing but it is only a smidgeon wider than the pieced front so I hope the quilting doesn't pull it in too much. At least I have plenty on the top and bottom. Anyhoo, it is sandwiched ready to machine quilt....just straight lines as I am not adept at quilting on my machine. 

 

I plan to quilt it tomorrow , cut the binding and a sleeve ready to finish.

THWARTED

A while ago I decided that I was going to complete every project I started without putting it aside and becomming a UFO. My 3 year old munchkin's crocheted blanket was coming along nicely until I ran out of some of the yarn. Despite ordering some more yarn from an Australian site instead of the UK I am still waiting.  

While waiting to continue crocheting I picked up a Christmas UFO which has 8 stitchery blocks and I had done 4 of them. I traced 2 more and have just finished stitching them.

However, I have nearly run out of the thread which means I cannot stitch the 8 blocks. I would usually go to my local patchwork/ wool shop to buy more but, as we know, these are not normal times. So, I am going to make the wallhanging with 6 blocks instead of 8. Problem solved!

CHRISTMAS STITCHING

I have been making some very slow progress stitching lately mainly because I have so many UFOs that I don't know where to start. While still waiting for the balls of yarn to arrive so I can complete my munchkin's crocheted blanket I decided to trace 2 more stitchery blocks of a Christmas wall hanging. I had only stitched 4 of the 8 blocks as I was running out of the particular thread I was using but I realised I had almost a whole one left so I traced 2 more blocks yesterday and started stitching a cute elf last night.

My little quilt is coming together nicely. The 4 top rows have been stitched together as have the bottom 3. So, I just need to stitch them both together then I shall audition my civil war fabrics for the borders. 

I enjoyed reading another book.

DIFFERENT WAYS

Brrrr, it looks like an early winter has arrived. All the more reason to stay in lockdown here in Victoria. It is so nice to see my munchkin's blanket grow as it provides warmth on my lap as I crochet. 
I had an 'oops' moment recently when I realised that I would not have enough yarn to complete the blanket. Now is not the time to reorder from the UK so I was fortunate to locate an Aussie website that had my particular yarn in all the colours I needed. Whew! It has apparently been despatched already so I am hoping the parcel won't take too long to arrive.

Now, did you know that a pillow slip cuff is not always a cuff? Silly question? Nope! While searching for instructions to make my munchkin's pillow slips I found several U.S  you tube tutorials and decided to try the ' buritto' method which entails rolling up the cut fabrics, sewing, then pulling the inside out.  Wooohoo! It came out beautifully. However, there is a ' but' . Now, the pattern said it was a pillowslip with a cuff, as do a lot of other U.S patterns but they all have the same issue...their idea of a cuff is simply the different fabric and/ or strip on the top part of the pillowslip. There is actually no cuff as I would assume a cuff to mean. I thought a cuff is the part inside that you tuck the pillow into to keep it from slipping out.  It appears that UK patterns do have cuffs as we do. So, the 1st pillowslip I made has no " cuff" lol.

You may note that I cut the fabric with the pattern sideways so when I find a better pattern with the elusive cuff I shall cut the fabric the other way. ( If I have enough).

I have made further progress with my little quilt.

I have so many projects to finish but I am determined to finish the blanket and little quilt first.

NOT A LOT

I have just spent the last half hour trying to redo my blog list to this page. I managed to delete the list when trying to add someone. Grrrrr. I had to go to my emails to get the links to each of your blog pages. Whew! I thought I would never be able to find you all again and that was quite disheartening.  

I have not achieved much since my last post but munchkin's blanket is growing.

I finished another book last night. It took me a while to get into it but I still enjoyed it.

I tried to focus on making the pillowslips yesterday for my 3 year old munchkin but I managed to cut a piece the wrong size so I put it aside again for today. Well, that didn't happen because I didn't get to sleep until around 5am and I have had a headache all day. Perhaps tomorrow.

CALMING CROCHET

I love crochet. I tried to do it decades ago with little success so I just kept knitting. However, all that changed after learning to crochet step by step with pics to guide me on Attic 24 and joining a Crochet A Long. I had previously done some crocheting with some help via the phone from a blog friend and I had some success but now I absolutely love it. I have been making my munchkin's blue blanket.

A while ago I bought some Thomas the Tank Engine fabric to make 2 pillow cases for my munchkin and I am still trying to get around to sewing them. I need to follow a tutorial.

I bought a small iron from Spotlight quite a while ago to iron the small pieces and blocks I hand piece. I always iron them on a small ironing board in my sewing room but I usually hand piece in another room. So, I decided to buy a small ironing mat to use closer to where I stitch. I also replaced my sand paper board with a lovely thin rubber mat that can be rolled up and even washed.

HAPPY DELIVERY

Hello, hello , hello. I feel like it has been ages since I last posted but , like everyone else, we have been settling in to the new normal.  I now shop for my parents and pick up their prescriptions leaving everything on their doorstep. They are very active people but they both have plenty to keep them occupied. Dad has his workshop, vegie garden and his bees to look after . Mum loves tending to her garden, stitching, knitting and reading. Both my parents experienced the polio epidemic as children and WW2 restrictions here in Australia so they are quite happy staying home.

I did the happy dance this morning when my parcel of yarny yumminess finally arrived from the UK. I love Stylecraft Special DK  yarn as it is machine washable and feels so lovely. My 3 year old munchkin  loves snuggling under my crocheted blankets so I am going to crochet a blanket for him to have at his home. He keeps telling me " bwoo is my favrit colour grandma" so I ordered a few balls of the yarn in different blues, a cream and a grey.  I am going to use Attic 24's Dune pattern .

I love crocheting with Armour crochet hooks so I ordered 3 more different sizes to add to the 3 I already have. Before you ask, no, I do not have any association with the brand of yarn or crochet hooks, I just love using them. 

I have made progress with my little hand pieced quilt. It looks a bit messy but all the 2 inch blocks are placed in order.

I haven't been stitching much despite all the available time as I have been quite tired. I had 2 carcinomas cut out a week ago, one from my forearm and one from my cheek. The one on my forearm was ok but the one on my cheek was cancer. I am so glad I went to the skin doctor when I did because I was thinking if postponing it until the pandemic was over. Just call me Scarface now lol.
